BUENA VISTA, Va. A flurry of first half goals gave the Southern
Virginia Men's Soccer team the cushion they needed to overcome
Gallaudet 5-0. Two Josh Patino goals book ended three other Knight
goals as SVU took the season series against the Bison 2-0.
Patino struck early in the first half, as he hit a long distance
shot which beat the Bison keeper to the near post. Chris Teerlink
struck next as he received a pass from Tyler Laurant and put it
past the visitor's keeper for the 2-0 lead.
Nelson McNaughton added to the scoring as he converted a penalty
kick after Cisco Osegueda was taken down in the box. Marcus
Davidson rounded out the first half scoring as he pounced on a
loose ball in the box after a scramble from an SVU cross.
Patino struck for the final goal in the second half as he took a
pass from Teerlink and hit another long range shot. The 5-0 score
line allowed for the Knights to empty the bench and play all of the
team. Both Ben May and Mike Wilson shared the shutout.
The Knights now move to 7-3-1 on the season. SVU has now won
three games in a row, and have secured a winning season for the
first time since 2002.
SVU returns to action Oct. 15 when they host West Virginia Tech
in the team's Homecoming Game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00.
