BUENA VISTA, Va. A barrage of first half goals took Southern
Virginia Women's Soccer out of the game as they suffered the first
home loss of the season 7-0 against Davis & Elkins. SVU
suffered defensive lapses in the first half as they gave up six
goals against the Senators.
Goalkeeper Mariah Flake was kept busy as she recorded 10 saves
on the afternoon. SVU was behind early as the Senators put a goal
in within the first three minutes of the game. The hosts were
unable to respond and surrendered a second goal three minutes
later.
The Knights were unable to keep the Senators off the board as
they gave up another four goals in the half to make the 6-0 deficit
insurmountable for the hosts.
"It's a very humbling afternoon," said Head Coach Matt Grawrock.
"We just seemed to be in a daze from the start, and you can't do
that against a good team like that. It seemed like nothing went our
way, and we couldn't adjust."
SVU had a better second half, but still could not keep Davis
& Elkins off the board as the visitors put in another goal a
the 60:38 mark. SVU falls to 6-5-1 on the season after the loss.
The Knights return to action Oct 10 as they face off against West
Virginia Tech in the Knights' Homecoming Game. Kickoff is scheduled
for 5:00.
