FERRUM, VA - Derrick Maggard scored in the 75th minute of play
to lead Southern Virginia University to a 1-0 win over Ferrum
College in non-conference men's soccer action Sept. 12 at
Penn-Roediger Field.
SVU's Josh Pitino ripped a shot, which was stopped by Ferrum
goalkeeper Chris Taylor, but when the ball popped loose, Maggard
was there to put it away.
Coach Longenecker stated "The game was a continuous battle
throughout, it seemed like a continuation of the 0-0 tie from last
year. Our players are starting to jell and have a commitment to
play unselfishly ....we are still young in the season, and have
lots to do and accomplish. The team's heartbeat is very strong and
their determination to strive and help each other to be the very
best they can is very evident in practices and games. We look
forward to hosting Washington & Lee and how we can improve in
our matches each time we take the pitch."
The Knights return to action on September 15 against Washington
and Lee at 4 p.m. at Southern Virginia.
