MURFREESBORO, NC. Two late first-half goals proved too much for
the Southern Virginia Women's Soccer team as they lost 3-1 to
Chowan. Both goals came within the last five minutes of the half,
and put the Knights in the hole heading into the second half.
SVU came back in the second half and pressed to get back in the
game. In the 65th minute Freshman Kendra Heim moved the Knights
within one goal of the visitors. As the Knights continued to press
for the equalizer a hot, humid day took its toll on the visitors as
they were stretched too thin and allowed a breakaway goal to the
Hawks which iced the game for the hosts.
"I really felt that with Kendra's goal we were going to get it
all the way back," said Head Coach Matt Grawrock. "Unfortunately we
got punished when we were stretched, and the game slipped away from
us. It's unfortunate because our efforts have not always been
rewarded, and I thought we played a great game, but just couldn't
score goals."
The Knights move to 4-4 on the year, and now will regroup for an
away game at Sweet Briar. The kickoff is schedule for 10:30 am.
