BRIDGEWATER, Va. A 23-point first half was too much for the
Southern Virginia Women's Basketball team to overcome as they fell
to Bridgewater 74-56. Jasmin Johnson led
the Knights with 11-points and 9-rebounds, but was the only Knight
player in double-figures. The Eagles overwhelmed the visitors early
and often, and put the game away early.
SVU's shooting woes continued as they converted on only 9 of
their first 28-shots. Three-point shooting improved for the first
half, as the Knights converted 33% of their shots behind the arc.
Johnson was joined by Jessica Anderson,
who scored 9-points, in leading Knight scorers. Carly Skinner was the
team's second leading rebounder with five for the evening. Cara Joyner followed up
a strong performance against Mary Baldwin with 8-points and
4-rebounds.
The Knights went 21-for-61 for a 34% shooting percentage for the
evening. SVU was able to pull down 35 rebounds, and shot 9-for-18
from 3-point range. The Knights struggled to get to the free throw
line, and then struggled once they got there as they went 5-for-12.
Southern Virginia is now 5-11 on the season. The Knights will
continue their road swing when they travel to play at Penn State-
Fayette. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
