Women's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak to Eight

FERRUM, Va. – With another strong defensive effort, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team defeated Ferrum College at Penn-Roediger Field Thursday evening, 1-0, to extend its current unbeaten streak to eight games.

The match's only goal came in the 51st minute when Southern Virginia's Tamara Nagle chested in a corner kick from Melanee Guymon that was first headed by Jackie Barlow. The goal by Nagle, who is a defensive specialist for the Knights, was her first of the season.

Southern Virginia (9-5-1) allowed Ferrum (10-5-1) only 11 shots in the match, four of which were turned away by keeper Mariah Flake as the Knights tallied their eight shutout of the season.

Women's soccer now has a week off before it travels to Arlington, Va. for its final regular season match of the year on Thursday, Oct. 28 against Marymount University. The match will start at 7 p.m.
