FERRUM, Va. – With another strong defensive effort, the
Southern Virginia University women's soccer team defeated Ferrum
College at Penn-Roediger Field Thursday evening, 1-0, to extend its
current unbeaten streak to eight games.
The match's only goal came in the 51st minute when Southern
Virginia's Tamara Nagle
chested in a corner kick from Melanee Guymon that was first headed
by Jackie
Barlow. The goal by Nagle, who is a defensive specialist for
the Knights, was her first of the season.
Southern Virginia (9-5-1) allowed Ferrum (10-5-1) only 11 shots
in the match, four of which were turned away by keeper Mariah Flake
as the Knights tallied their eight shutout of the season.
Women's soccer now has a week off before it travels to
Arlington, Va. for its final regular season match of the year on
Thursday, Oct. 28 against Marymount University. The match will
start at 7 p.m.
