BUENA VISTA, Va. - Outside hitters, Brynn McGinn and Shyanne
Ison combined for 26-total kills, as they rallied from 1-set down,
and helped the southern Virginia volleyball team beat Hollins, 3-1.
After falling in the first set, 18-25, the Knight were able to
rally behind their hitters, and were able to out-hit the hosts
44-40.
The second set went the Knights' way, as they recorded 15-kills,
and hit .250 to even up the match at 1-1. Another strong showing
was put in by Ali Krebs, as the senior setter contributed
32-assists to the cause. Nicole Gwynn was thwarting the Hollins
offense, as she had 26-digs and started the attacks with solid
passing.
The third set gave the Knights the lead, and it would be a lead
they would not relinquish. Freshman Tori Tuttle, chipped in
9-kills, and made things difficult for the hosts, as she recorded
4-digs to go along with 4-block assists. Kelsey Beck teamed with
Tuttle to make things difficult over the net, as she recorded
3-blocks on the evening.
The fourth set was anything but a formality, as Hollins looked
to extend the match. The strong play of the Knights on the
defensive end forced the hosts into 11-attack errors. SVU killed
off the match with a 25-18 set win, and took the season series at
2-0.
The win pushed the Knights to 12-16 on the season. Southern
Virginia returns to action, when it ravels to Bristol, TN. for
matches with Salem College and Virginia Intermont College.
