FARMVILLE, Va. Hosts, Longwood University, put in 53-points in
the first-half, which proved to be too much for the Southern
Virginia Men's Basketball team to overcome, losing 96-77. The
Lancers led the Knights 53-34 at the half, and matched SVU's
43-points to finish the game with the 19-point lead. The senior
trio of Bryce Pendleton, Cory
Evans and Ade Swann led the Knights with a combined for 55 of
the visitors' 77 points. Pendleton led all scorers with 20-points,
but SVU could not contain the Lancers, as six different players
scored double-digit points for the hosts.
SVU was able to stay with the NCAA D.I team for the beginning
part of the first half. An 18-16 lead for the Knight at the 14:10
mark of the first came after a quick 10-points from Evans.
Longwood, however, absorbed the blow from the Knights and went on a
20-6 run to close the door on any upset. SVU made it close in the
half though as they got to within four points with 4:14 left. But
again, Longwood rattled off a big run of 15-poins to close the half
in favor of the Lancers.
SVU was unable to put the breaks on Longwood in the second half,
as the hosts jumped to a 30-point lead at one point in the
second-half. SVU was able to regroup and matched the Lancers in
points in the second term.
SVU shot 55% from the field on 28-of-51 shooting. The Knights
were also deadly from behind the three-point line, hitting on 50%
of their shots. SVU was able to battle tough on the boards, as they
pulled down 27-rebounds to Longwood's 30. Evans led the Knights
with 6-rebounds.
After the loss the Knights fall to 12-8.SVU will look to stop
their 4-game losing streak Feb. 20, when they host Bluefield in
Knight Arena. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
