EMORY, Va. Despite a late comeback effort, Southern Virginia
Men's Soccer team was unable to overcome a 3-0 deficit to the Emory
& Henry Wasps, who handed the Knights their first loss of the
season.
Southern Virginia fell behind early as Emory & Henry scored
the opening goal of the match in the 3rd minute of play. The Wasps
extended their lead over the Knights in the 25th minute, with a
header off one of their three first-half corner kicks.
Emory & Henry struck again to open the second-half, taking a
commanding 3-0 lead, but Southern Virginia responded quickly as Chris
Teerlink answered 83 seconds later with his first goal of the
season. Teerlink's goal shifted momentum to the Knights, who were
able to pull within a goal of the Wasps when Brandon
Seeberger scored his second goal of the season in the 62nd
minute.
However, Southern Virginia's comeback fell short as the Knights
were unable to even the score before time expired. Emory &
Henry (1-2-1) emerged from the match with a 3-2 victory for it's
first win of the season, while Southern Virginia (3-1-0) suffered
it's first loss of the year.
The Knight's season will continue on Saturday, Sept. 11, when
they will host the Gallaudet Bison. The game is scheduled to begin
at 2 p.m.
