Guymon Nets Knights' Lone Goal in 6-1 Loss at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.—The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team lost 6-1 at NCAA Division II Shepherd University on Wednesday falling to 4-9 on the season.

Shepherd (6-5-1) opened the match with an offensive onslaught, scoring five unanswered goals before the 18-minute mark of the first half.

Southern Virginia's lone score came in the 68th minute of play when senior midfielder Melanee Guymon (Chico, Calif.) netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Morgan Gabriel would add Shepherd's final goal in the 88th minute of play completing her hat trick for the match after previously scoring in the 6th and 18th minutes.

Women's soccer has nearly a week off before traveling to NAIA Bluefield University (1-12-1) on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.
