Knights Stumble Against Mary Baldwin

Box Score

STAUNTON, Va. - The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team suffered a hard loss at the hands of the Mary Baldwin Squirrels, 51-47. Mina Romito recorded a double-double, with 11-points and 11-rebounds, but it was not enough, as the Knights came up short against the hosts.

Nicole Tolman was the leading scorer for the visitors as she hit on 3-of-4 from the field, and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Romito and Tolman were the only Knights in double-figures, as the SVU offense struggled all afternoon. Southern Virginia went 17-for-49 for a shooting percentage of 34%. SVU was able to play strong defense and kept the Squirrels from shooting over 30%.

The first half finished at 24-24, and saw four different lead changes. No team ever had a lead of more than 8-points, and the game was tied with two minutes left in the game. Mary Baldwin responded first to Jessica Anderson's game tying 3-pointer, and scored the last four points to take the win.

The loss drops the Knights to 10-14 on the season. Southern Virginia will return to the court Feb. 15 when the Knights host Bennett College on Senior Night. Tip off for the game is scheduled at 6:00 pm.
