FRONT ROYAL, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team scored four goals at USCAA-affiliate Christendom College on Monday afternoon as the 15th-ranked Knights handed the 17th-ranked Crusaders their first loss of the season.
Freshman Josh Smith (Newburgh, Ind.) netted his team-leading sixth goal of the year at Christendom, while fellow first-year Andrew Kubat (Laguna Hills, Calif.) recorded his first collegiate goal against the Crusaders.
Another Southern Virginia freshman, Scott Terry (Paris, Texas), had a memorable day at Christendom scoring twice for the first time as a Knight pushing his season goal total to four.
The Knights outshot the Crusaders 20-5 for the match, including a 7-4 advantage for shots on goal. Southern Virginia is now 1-0-1 against USCAA competition this year after settling for a 1-1 tie at Warren Wilson College on Sept. 10.
Men's soccer returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 29, when they host NCAA Division III Emory & Henry College on The Fields at 4 p.m.
