BUENA VISTA, Va.—Honoring four senior scholar-athletes who played in one of their final home games of the season, the Southern Virginia University men's soccer team achieved its first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Marymount University Wednesday afternoon at The Fields in  Buena Vista, Va.

With the win, the Knights improve to 1-14-1 while the Saints fall to 4-13-0. The four seniors honored by the program at halftime were Luis Diaz, Eric Palmer, Nathan Seeberger and Kyle Tyree, all who made significant contributions to the program and team over the past few years.

"This victory was a long time coming," said Southern Virginia Director of Soccer Matt Grawrock. "I think we came out with confidence on Senior Day and were playing proactively instead of reactively. Our back line played really smart. We fixed a few things at halftime which set us up for a successful second half. This group of seniors has weathered a lot this season, so I'm happy we sent them out on a good note."

With only 15 minutes remaining in the game at the 75:47 mark, the ball got to Carlos Munoz in the center of the box after a flick on from Tyree, which was followed by another flick from Seeberger. Munoz then took the shot and managed to get it past the Saints' keeper.

The Knights' defensive efforts were successful as 16 Marymount shot attempts, including six on goal, did not make it into Southern Virginia's net. The Saints' Onar Yousefi led Marymount with six shot attempts.

Freshman Sam Bunnell contributed three shot attempts with two on goal, while Seeberger, Munoz, Cox and Doxey each poured in one attempt. The Saints outshot the Knights by a 16-7 ratio and had four corner kicks to the Knights' three.

Knight goalie Scott Zaring improved to 1-14-1 on the year with the win, while the Saints' Logan Cropper fell to 16-8.

Southern Virginia next competes Saturday afternoon at CAC foe York (Pa.) scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
