Box Score

By Laura Workman

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.—Despite Tatiana Monsen's unassisted goal for an early 1-0 lead, the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team lost 2-1 on the road at Mary Washington Tuesday night in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The Orem, Utah, native was able to capitalize after an Eagle foul led to a penalty kick opportunity, which she converted for the early advantage midway through the first half. Just minutes before the end of the half, the Eagles' Anna Manser made her way past the Knight defense to end the half tied at one apiece.

As it appeared the game would go into overtime for the fourth time this season, Mary Washington's Maryfay Jackson and Maggie Gallagher teamed up for a header into the net and a 2-1 lead with under four minutes left to play. Monsen took one last shot seconds before time was out, but was unable to get it past the Eagle keeper.

Mary Washington outshot the Knights by an 18-4 margin and 6-2 ratio on goal. Monsen led the Knights with four shots and the only goal. Senior MaKenzie Cox was between the posts for the Knights and picked up four saves and a .667 save percentage.

The Knights return home to face York College of Pennsylvania Saturday at The Fields. Game time is set for 1 pm.
