ARLINGTON, Va.—Sophomore forward Tatiana Monsen's 16th goal of the season led the Southern Virginia University women's soccer team to its first double overtime victory of the season as the Knights defeated Marymount University, 2-1, Wednesday night in Arlington, Virginia.

The victory was Southern Virginia's second Capital Athletic Conference win of the season and snapped a four-game skid dating back to its win over Penn State Harrisburg on Oct. 4.

As both the team and conference's leading scorer, Monsen scored quickly as she dribbled past the Marymount defenders in the 10th minute of the game and put it past the Saint keeper for an early 1-0 Knight advantage.

The Saints allowed the Knights three more shots on keeper Holly Wagner during the rest of the half, but minutes before the end of the first half Marymount's Hannah Lawton tied it up, 1-1, on a goal from a cross via teammate Kirsten Campball.

The Southern Virginia offense outshot the Saints by an 8-2 margin but was unable to get one past Wegner, which led to the fourth overtime of this season.

Neither squad was able to get a shot on goal in the first overtime stanza, leading a second overtime. With just over five minutes before the game would end in a draw, Monsen capitalized on a deflected ball by the Marymount defense for her 16th goal of the season and a 2-1 victory for the Knights.

The Knights host St. Mary's College of Maryland for its senior game on Saturday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at The Fields of Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia.
