DANVILLE, Va- The Southern Virginia women's basketball team faced off against Averett in the opening game of the season, falling in the fast-paced game, 105-72.
In the first quarter the Cougars (1-0) started the game on fire and thanks to some inopportune turnovers by the Knights (0-1) the Cougars scored 38 points in the first 10 minutes. The Knights' offense found it rhythm in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 10 going into halftime.
Ten Knights saw action on the court, four scoring in double digits. Merideth Ouellette led the Knights with 20 points, followed by Larissa Macfarlane who had 15 and Morgan Hartvigsen who put up 13, including three 3s.
Shae Wilcox led the team in both rebounds and assists with 11 and seven.
The Knights' next game on November 17 as they travel to face conference opponent Wesley; tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
