BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia football team lost 51-7 to Christopher Newport University in their final game of the 2015 season ending with a 0-10 record.
In his final game at Southern Virginia, senior Sam Mellor had six tackles and two of them resulted in loss of yards for the Captains. Mellor averaged six tackles per game with 60 total in this season.
The Knights' only touchdown of the game came with a minute remaining when quarterback Jacob Hatch ran the ball in from the five to put the Knights on the board.
Jared Watts led the Knight offense with 57 rushing yards and had three receptions for 14 yards. Freshman Morgan Smith had six receptions for a respective 52 yards. Nathan Wilson, Michael Carroll, and Lakeith Hopkins also contributed to the offense's 198 yards.
Brayden Barrus also had a respective six solo tackles for the Knights. Nick Watterson and Dallin Breen combined for 10 tackles.
