BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's soccer team suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Bridgewater College in a hard fought contest Wednesday night at the The Fields.
The Eagles (2-3-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a score from a corner kick in the twelfth minute. The Knights (1-7) struggled to capitalize on opportunities against a tough Eagles defense, ending the half down 1-0.
The Eagles came out strong in the second half with a goal scored in the 50th minute to give Bridgewater a 2-0 lead.
Following a red card penalizing the Knights later in the half, the Eagles quickly took advantage of being a man up and netted the final goal of the game in the 67th minute to secure the 3-0 win.
Junior Carlos Munoz had two of the Knights' nine shots, including one on goal.
Despite the persistent efforts of the offense and goalkeeper Keenan Carroll, who had six impressive saves throughout the game, the Knights were unable to break the shutout.
The Knights travel to St. Mary's (Md.) for their next game September 26; kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
