LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team faced Hampden-Sydney and Randolph this weekend in the co-sponsored Tiger/WildCat Classic. The Knights were unable to come up with a win, though Gabriel Ramirez was named to the All-Tournament team.
In game one at Hampden-Sydney (2-1), with only four shots on goal, the Knights were unable to connect for a score and freshman Tristan Lonergran, led the attack 2 shots on goal.
The Tigers took the lead midway through the first half on a goal from a deflected pass. Hampden-Sydney would score again in the 58th and 69th minutes.
Southern Virginia (0-3) goalkeeper, Kennan Carroll, ended the game with 8 saves.
The Knights were finally able to get on the board for the first time this season with a second-half goal against Randolph College (2-1).
The goal game after the Knights allowed four goals early in the first and second halves (5', 47', 50', 56') forward, Josh Smith assisted Alexander put the Knights on the scoreboard in the 59th minute.
Randolph scored twice more before the day was over, winning 6-1.
Goalkeeper, Kostner Olson finished the game with 9 saves for the Knights.
Freshman midfielder Gabriel Ramirez, who had one shot in game two, was named to the All-Tournament team for his performance over the weekend.
Southern Virginia faces Washington and Lee University at The Fields at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
