BUENA VISTA, Va.—In the first annual Blackham Classic the Southern Virginia women's soccer team had a win and a loss in the four-team weekend event.
In game one of the classic, which was named to recognize the contributions of Chad and Cathy Blackham and their family, the Knights (1-2) faced Ferrum College (3-0), Friday night under the lights.
Ferrum was quick to score, putting one past goalkeeper Carmel Hardy in the third minute. The Panthers scored three more goals before the Knights' Jackie Barlow would score an unassisted goal in the 77th minute. The final score was 4-1.
Southern Virginia faced Emory & Henry (0-2-1) in game two, on Saturday. The Knights earned their first win of the season in a 1-0 victory.
After two first-half shots on goal, junior Tatiana Monsen finally connected for the score in the 50th minute.
In goal, Savannah Uri earned the win and recorded five saves.
The Knights head to Lynchburg, Va. this weekend in the Lynchburg Schnellenberger Classic. Game one is September 11 at 5 p.m.
