FROSTBURG, Md.—With a career-high 27-point double-double performance by Anders Jacobson, the Southern Virginia men's basketball team earned their their first conference victory on the road, beating Frostburg State University 84-83.
Spurred by a 14-point first half by Anders Jacobson the Knights (5-9, 4-3 CAC) led by four at the half. Later in the second half they would take a 14-point lead over the Bobcats (5-9, 3-4 CAC), which became just enough to get the victory.
Free throws were the difference in the game. Southern Virginia connected on 28 shots from the line (84.8%) compared to Frostburg's 17 (58.6%). Late foul shots secured the victory for the Knights as Jacobson and Aarun Rumbaugh made four of six in the last 90 seconds.
Jacobson recorded his second double-double of the year scoring a game-high 27 points and tallying 10 rebounds, four steals, and two assists. David Baety scored 21 points and had five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Cale Thornton came off the bench and scored 13 points and recorded six rebounds.
Southern Virginia returns to action at Salisbury University on Saturday, January 16 at 3 p.m.
