By Nick Porter

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Southern Virginia University football team fell to Christopher Newport, on the road in their final game of the season Saturday afternoon, 41-0.

The Knights (2-8, 1-8 NJAC) were held to under 100 yards of total offense by the Captains' (7-3, 6-3 NJAC) defense.

With the win, Christopher Newport secured a third-place finish in the NJAC, and handed league champion Wesley College its only conference loss of the season.

The Captains got on the board 11 minutes into the first period, and would score twice more in the half. In the third quarter CNU scored two offensive touchdowns and had a 21-yard interception return.

Senior running back Michael Frye led the Knights with 38 yards.

Aaron Vinson recorded his first reception of the year, a 16 yard pass from quarterback Brendan Smith.

Defensively the Knights were unable to force any turnovers, but broke up five passes. Marcos Garcia and Mitch Orme led with six tackles apiece.

Coach Joe DuPaix ends his first season at the helm with a pair of wins, and the best program record since 2013.
