BUENA VISTA, Va.—The Southern Virginia men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Eastern Mennonite University in their season opener on Thursday night.
The Royals (1-0-0) found the back of the net early in the first half off of a free kick from about 25 yards out. Despite efforts by the Knights' (0-1-0) offense, Eastern Mennonite added their second goal in the 65th minute to secure their win.
Southern Virginia outshot the Royals 10-9 but was unable to convert anything into points. Bailey Larson and Gabriel Ramirez both had two shots for the Knights.
In 90 minutes in goal, senior Keenan Carroll recorded three saves.
Southern Virginia continues play at home on Saturday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
