LYNCHBURG, Va.—The Southern Virginia women's soccer team, led by Tatiana Monsen, won their third match of the season Saturday night, topping Randolph College 3-2.
Within the first ten minutes the Wildcats (0-4-1) found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead, which they would keep throughout the first half.
Twenty minutes into the second period, Tatiana Monsen found the back of the net from just outside the 18. A mere four minutes later, Monsen hit the top left corner of the goal from Lily Winterton and Emily McFadyen passes, to give the Knights the go-ahead.
Monsen then assisted Taylor Martin in scoring her third goal of the season to finish the Knight's three-goals-in-nine-minutes run, and give the team the defensive buffer. The two-goal differential proved to be of great importance in the 78th minute when Randolph scored their final goal of the game.
Megan Turner got the win in goal for the Knights, recording five saves. Southern Virginia outshot the Wildcats 20-12 and 9-7 on goal.
Conference play begins on Saturday at Salisbury, following a non-league home matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
