Women's Lacrosse Downs Hollins in First Win of Season

ROANOKE, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's lacrosse team earned an impressive 18-9 win over Hollins University in a non-conference match.

Hollins (0-1) found the back of the net in the first minute of the game, but Southern Virginia (1-3) answered with three goals of their own to take the lead.  Both teams took turns scoring for the remainder of the half, which ended in a 12-7 advantage for the Knights.

Freshman Lauren Thatcher (Vail, Ariz.) scored her fifth goal of the day in the final minute of the first half to put the Knights ahead 12-7. Southern Virginia opened the second half with five goals and held Hollins to two to secure their win.

Zoe Bradshaw (Stevens, Mont.) added four goals and two assists. Claire Houghtaling (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Madeleine DuPaix (Pleasant Grove, Utah) each recorded a hat trick.

The Knights outshot Hollins 41 to 18. Keilani Torres-Lopez played in goal and recorded four saves.

Southern Virginia continues non-conference action against Montreat College at The Fields on Saturday, March 4 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
