Knights Drop Decision to Quakers 5-2

GREENSBORO, N.C.— The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell 5-2 to Guilford College after the Quakers score four goals in the final half.

In the first half, the Knights (1-17, 0-6) had the first strike, when Anthony Bowden scored his first goal of the season receiving a low cross from Seth Grieve at eight yards out in the fifth minute.

The Quakers (6-10, 1-8) responded with a goal of their own in the 16th minute tying up the game at 1-1. The remainder of the first half was scoreless leaving the score at half an even 1-1.

In the second half, the Quakers went on a scoring run, scoring four straight goals, growing their lead to 5-1. The Knights were able to break the Quaker defense one more time with an unassisted Jackson Hatch goal, bringing the game to 5-2 but Southern Virginia could not close the gap falling 5-2 as the final.

The Knights had their share of opportunities with four players recording two shots on goal.  In total, the team had 10 shots on goal. James Hampton was at goalkeeper and secured nine saves.

The Knights have one game left before the first round of the CAC Championsips. They will play at home against Mary Washington Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Knight Stadium, the game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
