Box Score

BUENA VISTA, Va. — After an emotional ceremony to honor head men's basketball coach Tony Caputo for 20 years of coaching, the Southern Virginia University men's basketball team topped Frostburg State University 73-66 in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.

Spurred by a game-high 16 points from senior forward Aarun Rumbaugh, the Knights (11-13, 6-11) took a 40-32 lead into the intermission. Despite having eight lead changes, the Bobcats (10-14, 8-9 CAC) never led by more than two points, and the Knights led the entire second half.

Despite allowing 18 offensive rebounds by Frostburg, Southern Virginia won the overall rebound battle 43-36 and earned their way to the free throw line, knocking down 17 of 22 attempts compared to 5-12 for the Bobcats.

Frostburg State only coughed the ball up five times, but the Knights shot better overall for the game, and sunk six treys.

Rumbaugh added five boards to his 16 points. Sam Armstrong led the bench with 13 points, included three from downtown. Kellen Winslow also splashed three triples and finished with 12 points. Alec Johnson led the team with four assists and chipped in eight points. Justin Prisbrey recorded a team-high 10 rebounds and added seven points.

Senior center Cale Thornton, who put up 30 points at Frostburg, still managed to pull down nine rebounds despite the extra pressure inside.

The Knights will finish the 2017-18 campaign at Salisbury University on Saturday, Feb. 17.
