Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team fell to No. 23 Christopher Newport University by the score of 4-0 Wednesday night at CNU Soccer Stadium.
Goalkeeper Jacob Solis impressed in the box on with an impressive 13 save performance. Peysen Webster not only was a strong defensive force but also played strong offensively with two shots on the night to lead the team. Zach Martin and Daniel Thompson each added a shot while Aldus Simmons and Seth Grieve played crucial roles defensively, eliminating multiple Christopher Newport scoring efforts.
Southern Virginia (2-15) relied on its defense early in the first half. The Captains (10-2-3) broke the scoreless game in the 9th minute on a Michael Wilson goal, followed two minutes later by another goal to lead the Knights 2-0. Southern Virginia tightened defensively for the remainder of the half to head into the half trailing by two.
In the second half, the Captains extended their lead adding two more goals to close out the game with the 4-0 victory.
Southern Virginia managed to get off five shots with two landing on goal but were unable to get an opportunity via corner kicks.
The Knights travel to Salisbury University for their final regular-season away game on Saturday, October 26, at 1 pm.
