Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball went undefeated over the weekend at the EMU Tournament and improved their record to 4-1 with a win over Stevenson by the score of 64-59.

"Every game we continue to learn and grow as team," said head coach Lynette Schroeder. "We had great energy this week in practice, which propelled us into our games this weekend. I'm happy with the way these ladies stayed composed this weekend."

Savanna Christensen lit up the scoreboard coming off the bench with an impressive 15 points on the night, and Amanda Wood followed closely behind with 13 of her own. Sophie Wright impressed with four assists. Christensen and Katie Garrish each had a game-high nine rebounds, and Garrish added five blocks to her resume.

Southern Virginia scored the first six points of the game and continued its dominance after Amanda Wood hit a three-point shot. The Knights would maintain the lead going into the second quarter up by five.

Chiara Ballam (six points) and Savannah Christensen (10 points) came off the bench in the second quarter and combined for 16 of the Knight's 22 total points. Sophie Wright had a crucial offensive rebound and led the quarter in rebounds for Southern Virginia before going into the second half.

The Knights went into halftime with an impressive 11 point lead. Southern Virginia outshot Stevenson (2-1) 48.4 percent (17-for-35) percent to 25.9 (9-for-35) from the field in the first half. The Knights also outrebounded the Mustangs 22-20.

Stevenson came out of halftime and outscored Southern Virginia 17-13 in the third quarter and used four offensive rebounds to cut the Knight's lead to seven going into the fourth.

Although being outscored again in the fourth quarter, Southern Virginia used the momentum of Katie Garrish's six fourth-quarter points and three offensive rebounds to hold off the Mustang's comeback.

The Knights had a big day with their reserve players having their bench outscore Stevenson's bench 25-14. Stevenson made Southern Virginia's victory difficult, tying in rebounds 41-41. The Knights outshot the mustangs 39.3 percent (24-for-61) to 31.1 percent (19-for-61) on the night.

Southern Virginia takes on Redlands on Friday, Nov. 29, for their next contest. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
