Wrestling Dealt Loss on the Road Against Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team faced off against Ferrum College Wednesday night, suffering a 39-9 loss.

"We made some mistakes tonight," said head coach Logan Davis. "If you make mistakes against a team like Ferrum, they will exploit them."

Going up against a highly talented Panthers team, the Knights came away with two impressive wins on the night.

Southern Virginia dropped their first two matches in the first two weight classes of the night, the first match at 125 lb being a forfeit.

Aaron Freidhof had an impressive match going up against the number one wrestler in the country in the 133 lb weight class. Freidhof dropped the match, but only allowed his opponent to score three points.

In the 141 lb weight class, Aldair Moran defeated his opponent in a 6-4 decision to give the Knights their first win of the match.

Ferrum claimed the next six weight class matches, further extending their impressive lead over Southern Virginia.

Nico Ramirez joined Moran with a victory of his own. Competing in the 285 lb weight class, Ramirez earned his win via pin in 1:40, earning the second win of the night, but the Panthers' strong start would lock in the victory with the final score of 39-9.

"We are still improving as a team and the momentum is still within our favor," concluded Davis. "We will look to continue our growth after the break."

Southern Virginia will wait until the New Year to compete in their next match. The Knights will compete in the Jim Crytzer Invitational on Jan. 4 in Lexington, Va.
