Knights Take Down Battling Bishops 2-1

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team collected its first victory of the season on Saturday, beating North Carolina Wesleyan 2-1.

The Battling Bishops (0-2) scored in the 15th minute to go up 1-0, a lead which they would take into halftime.

The Knights (1-1) picked up the intensity in the second half, scoring two goals in a four-minute span. In the 67th minute, freshman Shelby Pulliam scored the first goal of her career on an assist from Audrey McKeon, and in the 70th minute, defender Tori Wescott found the back of the net to give Southern Virginia a 2-1 advantage.

Southern Virginia's defense held strong throughout the rest of the game to secure the win.

Laurel Storheim led the Knights with four shots, while Pulliam and Wescott both had two. Savannah Uri picked up the win in goal, finishing with two saves.

The team will continue its season on Thursday as they return home to take on Pfeiffer. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Knight Stadium.
