STAUNTON, Va. — For the third time this season, 90 minutes was not enough time to decide the winner as Southern Virginia (1-6) loses another overtime heartbreaker to Mary Baldwin University (4-3) Wednesday night.

The first half saw the Fighting Squirrels outshoot the Knights 7-3, but strong defense from Southern Virginia denied every Mary Baldwin opportunity.

Goalkeeper Jacob Solis stood tall in the match as he was able to make four saves in the first half to keep the score tied.

The action continued in the first half of the match as things began to get a little chippy as there were three yellow cards distributed.

The script flipped in the second half for the Knights as they came out and rattled off three shots within the first ten minutes of play. Sophomore Zach Martin led the night with three shots while freshmen Peysen Webster and Erik Arellano each had two.

In overtime, Southern Virginia had a golden opportunity to secure a victory, but strong goaltending from Mary Baldwin erased hopes of freshman Sam Melo's shot going in.

It did not take long in the second overtime for the Fighting Squirrels to score the game-winning goal as they defeat the Knights in the 102nd minute of the match.

Southern Virginia looks to rebound as they host Randolph College at home on Saturday, September 21st at 5:30 pm.
