LEXINGTON, Va. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team squared off against cross-town rival Washington and Lee University Saturday night, falling to the Generals 48-2.
After forfeiting in the 125-pound class, Aaron Friedhof fell to Charlie Cunningham by decision 9-3 in the 133-pound class. Matt Muller of Washington and Lee defeated Tyrell Barney by way of pin in the 141-pound class, and Alex Winant beat Nicolas Korhonen in the 149-pound class by pin.
In the 157-pound class, Colby Bourdreau earned a victory over Matthew Rosson by major decision 12-4. Alecsander Horne defeated Gavin Blair in the 174-pound class by pin, and Rex Hallyburton defeated Cole Oldham by tech fall 15-0. In the 197-pound class, Brad Basham earned the final victory of the night for Washington and Lee over Guy Lozius by way of pin.
Nico Ramirez took the final match of the day competing in the 285-pound class against Clay Chadwick. Ramirez took down Chadwick and earned the first victory for Southern Virginia University of the night by decision 7-5.
The Knights continue their season with their final home contest of the season in a tri-match against Alderson Broaddus and Averett College on Saturday, Feb. 8.
