Women's Soccer Defeats William Peace 2-1

BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's soccer team earned their fifth win of the season, downing William Peace 2-1 in Knight Stadium Saturday night.

Game Notes

  • Just 13 minutes in the game, Anna Roberts found an open Makinna Winterton, who scored the game's first goal to put the Knights up 1-0
  • In the 51st minute, Makinna Winterton again found an opening and scored her second goal of the game, putting the team up 2-0
  • Towards the end of the first half, a controversial call was made after Makya Lindgren scored the team's third goal of the game, but a goalie interference call wiped out the goal
  • After halftime and in the 64th minute, Victoria Finklea scored the team's first goal, chipping it over the goalkeeper to cut the deficit in half 2-1

Southern Virginia returns to action Monday, October 4, taking on Emory and Henry in Knight Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 5 pm.
