STAUNTON, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team opened USA South Conference play Tuesday night taking on Mary Baldwin University. The Knights came away with the victory, downing the Fighting Squirrels 72-57.

Game Notes

• It was the Katie Garrish show in the first quarter of play, with Garrish scoring 11 out of the team's 15 total points
• Courtney McKrola and Barrett Jessop each added a bucket to help the team stay within one point 15-16 after the first quarter
• Coming off the bench, Anna Singer began heating up with nine second-quarter points to lead the team
• Addison Newman and Barrett Jessop each added a total of five points to lead the team into halftime with a 29-26 advantage
• Anna Singer stayed hot after the halftime break, scoring eight third-quarter points
• Taylor Miyasaki and Malea Dye got into the mix with three points each
• The Knights offense dominated the final quarter of play, outscoring the Squirrels 27-13
• Savanna Christensen owned the court in the final quarter, scoring 13 points, while adding two rebounds and a steal
• Emma Camden and Katie Garrish each had five clutch points, while Addison Newman dropped four points
• The Knights improved to 3-2 overall on the year, while going up 1-0 in USA South Conference play with the win

Southern Virginia will host their home opener of the 21-22 campaign, welcoming Mary Washington to Knight Arena Wednesday, December 1. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
