NEWPORT NEWS, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team debuted in their 2021-2022 campaign taking on Christopher Newport University. The Knights fell in the season opener to the Captains 88-51.

• Savanna Christensen: 14 points | seven rebounds | one block
• Katie Garrish: 11 points | two blocks | two steals

Game Notes

• The first quarter was all CNU, scoring 25 points led by Natalie Terwilliger's seven points
• Four different Knights recorded a bucket from Savanna Christensen, Katie Garrish, Addison Newman, and Anna Singer
• Southern Virginia's offense picked it up in the second quarter, tallying 14 total points
• Christensen continued to lead the team with six points
• Courtney McKrola stepped up in the second, recording six points and two rebounds
• In the third quarter, the starting five evenly distributed 15 out of the 16 total points scored
• Taylor Miyasaki stepped up with three points in the third to go with a rebound and an assist
• Coming off the bench in the fourth, Cierra Thomas added three points, while Malea Dye and Lima Mulitalo contributed with two points each

The Knights continue their season, competing in the UR Chuck Resler Basketball Invitational Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13. Both games are slated for 3 pm.
