BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's basketball team cruised past conference foe Averett Saturday afternoon in Knight Arena, dominating the Cougars 84-55.

• Katie Garrish asserted her dominance early in the game, posting seven points, and five blocks in the first quarter of play
• Garrish added five rebounds, four defensive and one offensive, to her first quarter stats
• Off the bench, Anna Singer dropped six points 
• Southern Virginia's defense came up big, only allowing 11 points, while forcing eight turnovers
• Anna Singer had the hot hand in the second quarter, adding eight more points to her total, while tallying two offensive and two defensive rebounds
• Jadie O'Bray got into the mix, scoring four points along with two rebounds
• Southern Virginia owned the boards, outrebounding Averett 13-3 in the second quarter
• The Knights defense continued to impress, keeping the Cougars to only 22.2 percent from the field and not allowing a three-pointer to be scored
• Southern Virginia headed into the halftime break, with the offense ending the second quarter shooting 60 percent from the field while going 1-for-4 from behind the arc
• Katie Garrish picked up where she left off, scoring a team-high 11 points in the third quarter
• Barrett Jessop dropped a big three for the team to extend the lead to 32 points 65-33
• Madison Crunk came up big for the squad in the fourth quarter, dropping a three from deep while adding a rebound 
• Alyssa McKrola earned her first points of the game, and dished out two assists
• Lima Mulitalo earned solid minutes, recording three rebounds, one steal, and one block to help her team to the 84-55 victory

Southern Virginia travels to Oglethorpe on December 17 for a two-day tournament. The Knights take on Centre on the 17th and Oglethorpe on the 18th. Game one is scheduled for 6 pm, while game two tips off at 4 pm.
