Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, VA. — The Southern Virginia University women's volleyball team completed day one at the Washington and Lee Tournament Friday night, splitting both games, defeating Bridgewater College 3-2, and falling to Washington and Lee 0-3.

Courtney Pinkston: 34 kills, .200, 3 service aces, 26 digs
Elle Warnick: 76 assists, 15 digs
Emma Steiger: 43 digs, 4 service aces
Game Notes
Game One:
First Set:
- Both teams went toe-to-toe throughout the first set, with Bridgewater taking a 14-10 lead
- Courtney Pinkston sparked a 6-1 scoring run to give the Knights their first lead of the game
- Bridgewater and Southern Virginia traded the lead, with the Knights pulling ahead 23-21
- The Eagles tie up the match off of a Graces Hayes kill and a costly attacking error from the Knights
- After an attacking error by Bridgewater, Emma Steiger locked in the 1-0 lead with a service ace to end the set
Second Set:
- Southern Virginia kept the momentum going, building a comfortable 10-4 lead with four different Knights contributing points
- Bridgewater was unable to come back with Southern Virginia maintaining the six-point lead the remainder of the set and going up 2-0 early
- Courtney Pinkston led all players with five kills in the set
Third Set:
- The Eagles flipped the switch in the third set, going up 8-2 early
- Bridgewater doubled up the Knights 18-9 and did not look back, taking the third set 25-13
Fourth Set:
- The Eagles had hopes of another easy set going up 8-4, but Brenna Clyde led the charge of a 10-2 scoring run to put the Knights up 14-10
- Both teams traded points and the lead, but Bridgewater managed to force a fifth set, taking set four 25-23
Fifth Set:
- Southern Virginia came out hot in the fifth set, going up 9-4 led by four Pinkston kills
- The Eagles did not quit, fighting back down 14-10 to force extra points
- After a costly attacking error from Bridgewater, Ella Burrows and Sydney Hopkin secured the victory with a final block to win 3-2
Game Two:
First Set:
- After a close beginning to the set 6-5 in favor of the Generals, Washington and Lee used six consecutive points to go up 12-5 and did not look back
- The Generals used their combined 13 kills to take the first set 25-15
Second Set:
- Set two followed the script of the first set, with Washington and Lee getting the upper hand of the Knights early 5-0
- Midway through the set, the Generals established a 14-5 lead, eventually taking the second set 25-15 as well
Third Set:
- Southern Virginia kept fighting, keeping set three close 5-4 early on
- Washington and Lee did not let up, completing the sweep 25-16 in the third
Southern Virginia continues competition at the Washington and Lee tournament, taking on Berry Saturday, September 11. Game time is scheduled for 11 am.
