VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — The Southern Virginia University men's soccer team dropped their season opener Saturday afternoon, falling to Virginia Wesleyan 3-2 in an overtime thriller.

• In the fifth minute, Kohl Simmons put the Knights up 1-0 off an unassisted goal
• Nate Mitchel of Virginia Wesleyan tied the game at one, scoring in the 65th minute
• Hunter Westenskow scored the go-ahead goal 2-1 with 12 minutes remaining
• Alex Moody found an open Matt Campbell in the 85th minute, scoring the fourth goal of the game to force overtime
• The Marlins only needed 53 seconds to solidify their 3-2 comeback victory with a Michael Nocera goal off a Nate Mitchell assist

The Knights continue their season, taking on Brevard Tuesday, September 7, on the road. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
