Box Score BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia women's soccer team took on Carroll University Monday afternoon in Knight Stadium for the team's home opener, falling to the Pioneers 4-3 in overtime.

Game Notes
- At the 9:24 mark, Maddie Belo put the Pioneers up 1-0 off a savvy pass from Susanna Lai
- Makinna Winterton found open space towards the end of the half, cutting back to the middle, tying the game with a goal to the upper left corner
- Just 20 seconds later, Kaitlyn Zanon took matters into her own hands, scoring the unassisted go-ahead to goal, putting Carroll up 2-1
- Five minutes into the second half, Kaitlyn Zanon saw an opportunity from range, putting the ball in the back of the net, extending the Pioneers lead to two 3-1
- At the 75:46 mark, Sydney Kuhni-Liles pushed up the sideline, shooting and scoring her first goal of the season, making the new score 3-2
- Five minutes later, Makya Lindgren got creative, using a heel kick to tie the match 3-3 off of a Kassaundra Gorton assist, forcing overtime
- Halfway through the first overtime, Carroll drew a foul in the goal box, setting up the penalty kick
- Kaitlyn Zanon converted the penalty kick, scoring her second goal of the game, locking in the Pioneer victory
Southern Virginia takes on Brevard Tuesday, September 7 with game time scheduled for 4 pm.
