BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University wrestling team hosted their first dual in Knight Arena Wednesday night, taking on Shenandoah University. The Knights dominated the dual, taking down the Hornets 42-12.

In the 157-pound class, Weston Hirschi earned the team's first three points of the dual, defeating his opponent by decision 11-4. In the second period, Hirschi recorded eight points with a near fall, a takedown, and another near fall. Hirschi wrapped up his victory with an escape and a final takedown for three total points in the third period.

Tyson Hoopes earned six points in the 174-pound class, taking down Brennan Komelasky by fall in 5:50. Scott Chambers followed Hoopes up with another six points, only needing 50 seconds to pin his opponent.

Cache Holmes, electrified the crowd with his victory, showing his resilience and mental toughness throughout the match. Refusing to get pined, Holmes had a clutch escape in the first period, followed by a takedown. Holmes capped off his match with a pin in 2:24, earning six points for the squad.

Circling back to the 125-pound class, Jaden Nelson earned three points in the first period with an escape and a takedown, followed by two reversals in the second period. Nelson finished his match with a takedown in the third period to defeat his opponent by decision 9-6.

In the final match of the night, Eli Blackwell continued to demonstrate his dominance, taking down his opponent by fall in 4:01. His six points, locked in the Knights' 42-12 victory over the Hornets.

Southern Virginia will travel to Collegeville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, January 15 to compete in the Will Abele Invitational.
