BUENA VISTA, VA. – The Southern Virginia University Women's Volleyball team took on league opponent Mary Baldwin University in Knight Arena Tuesday night in an early week showdown. The Knights remained perfect against the Fighting Squirrels, completing the sweep, and earning the team's eighth consecutive victory.

Courtney Pinkston: Game-high ten kills, two service aces
Jessica Ensley: Five service aces
Set One:
- Southern Virginia cruised to a comfortable 19-3 to start off the match led by three kills from Jilane Pedersen and Ashley Torbenson
- Both teams went back and forth exchanging points, but an ace from Jessi Fietkau and two service errors from Mary Baldwin closed out the first set with Southern Virginia taking the 25-7 win and the 1-0 lead in the match
Set Two:
- Brenna Clyde and Jessica Ensley set the momentum in the second set with Clyde leading the charge with two kills, and Ensley dishing out two more aces, putting the Knights up 10-3 to start the second
- After a two point spurt from the Squirrels, Sydney Hopkin sparked a 9-0 scoring run for the Knights, with Courtney Pinkston leading the run with three kills
- Later in the set, Katelyn Chamberlain got into the mix with a service ace, presenting Southern Virginia with set point
- A final attacking error from Mary Baldwin concluded the second set, with Southern Virginia taking the 25-12 win
Set Three:
- Both teams struggled getting their offense going in the third set with the Knights holding the 9-5 lead
- Ashley Torbenson brought the momentum back to the team with back-to-back kills, setting up a final 16-1 scoring run, topped off by a final Abby Gregory kill, completing the sweep with a 25-6 final set victory

Southern Virginia travels to Fredericksburg, Virginia, to take on the University of Mary Washington in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, October 12. Game time is set for 6 pm.
