BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer team returns to Knight Stadium, October 14, for a Friday night lights matchup, facing off against Pfeiffer University at 6 pm.
The Series:
The Knights will have their eyes set on grabbing their first victory over the Falcons, avenging their 2021 loss, where a late-game penalty kick by Cayci Eaton pushed Pfeiffer past Southern Virginia.
In the 57
th minute,
Anna Roberts connected with freshman phenom
Makya Lindgren, scoring the team's lone goal of the game.
Impact Players:
Morgan Romney will be looked at to produce scoring opportunities for the offense, recording a goal in the past three games. Romney sits second on the team in goals with five, and in points with 11, behind
Makinna Winterton.
Matia Murray has stepped up in the past three contests, creating numerous scoring chances for the team, dishing out a team-high two assists on the year. Earlier in the week, Murray got off three shots against Salem, and one shot against Brevard the previous week, and will keep her focus on freeing herself from her defenders to keep the Falcons' goalie on her toes.
Alyssa Trueman will anchor the defense, sitting tied for fourth in the conference in total saves with 53, tallying ten saves in the past three games.
In front of Trueman,
Ella Thomas will be called to mark Pfeiffer's leading scorers Kayla Blankenship and Emma LaFave. The duo is combined for 16 points on the year, with the two of them recording two goals apiece.
Keys to the Game:
- Southern Virginia needs to keep their feet on the gas offensively, averaging three goals a game in the month of October
- Continue playing aggressive defensively, but limit hard fouls and yellow cards
