FREDERICK, Md. – The Southern Virginia University field hockey team closed out their historic 2022 season on the road, falling to Hood College on Saturday afternoon.
In the first ever meeting between the schools, the Blazers controlled possession from the opening whistle. They got on the board quickly, scoring in the fourth minute after an early penalty corner. Kate Haufe got a deflection on a shot by Julia Cencetti to take the lead.
After giving up the goal, the Knights buckled down defensively and were led by their senior goalkeeper. Kiera White made two saves in the remainder of the quarter and added another in the second to head into halftime only down one.
The Blazers would add back-to-back goals towards the end of the third quarter with goals from Julia Dean and Maddy Dillon just a minute apart, both assisted by Phebe Frost.
The match was put to bed early in the fourth when Cencetti found the back of the net off an assist from Hannah Sobchak.
