Knights Continue Conference Competition in Three-Game Home Stretch

BUENA VISTA, VA. — The Southern Virginia University Women's Volleyball team readies up for a three-game stretch at home this week, taking on Greensboro on Thursday October 6 at 5 pm, while taking on Methodist and NC Wesleyan on Saturday, October 8, beginning at 10 am.
 
The Series:
Greensboro:
The two teams face off for the fifth time in program history, with the Knights holding on to the 3-1 overall lead.
 
The teams met for the first time in 2011 where Southern Virginia won a five-set thriller in Danville, Virginia while the most recent meeting came last year at home with the Knights coming away with the 3-2 victory.
 
Last year's match showcased Courtney Pinkston recording a game-high 18 kills while Taryn Kartchner dominated at the net with seven blocks.
 
After trading set wins throughout the match, the Knights won the fourth set, forcing a fifth set. In the final set, Southern Virginia cruised to a 15-8 victory, taking the match 3-2.
 
Methodist:
Meeting for the fourth time, the Knights will look to stay undefeated against the Monarchs, playing their first match against the team in Knight Arena.
 
Last year, both teams met twice in October, where Sydney Hopkin led the team with 25 total kills, helping Southern Virginia sweep Methodist in the two matches. Additionally, Emma Steiger was a menace on defense, posting 33 total digs.
 
NC Wesleyan:
The Knights and the Battling Bishops throw down for the third time, with Southern Virginia holding a clean 2-0 record over the team.
 
Both matches came last year in October in neutral site events, with the Knights sweeping the Bishops in the first meeting.
 
In the second round, NC Wesleyan put up a good fight, taking Southern Virginia to five sets, but Courtney Pinkston and her career-high 27 kills, led the team to a 15-6 fifth set victory, closing out the game for the squad.
