LAGRANGE, GA. — Traveling to LaGrange College, the Southern Virginia Football team captured their first victory of the season, taking down the Panthers 35-21 in front of over 300 fans.
The Panthers struck first with a 13-yard dart from Shedrick Lindse to De'Queze Fryer to put the team up 7-0. The Knights snuck a score at the end of the first quarter with 30 seconds remaining in the first, with Cade Nelson rushing the ball four yards, completing the 95-yard drive to knot the game at seven.
Southern Virginia struck again to start the second quarter, topping off the 84-yard drive with a three-yard Jacob Wood touchdown. Four minutes later, Wood scored his second consecutive touchdown, rushing two yards for the score, putting the Knights up 21-7.
With 28 seconds remaining in the half, Southern Virginia used some trickery, handing the ball to Wood, who connected with Jalan Troy for the six-yard touchdown pass, grabbing their largest lead of the season 28-7.
The second half featured one touchdown score by LaGrange in the third quarter prior to Alex Lanktree's first touchdown of the season, rushing seven yards to the house, making the new score 35-14. A final touchdown by the Panthers was not enough, as the Southern Virginia defense clutched up, holding LaGrange scoreless for the next seven minutes to claim the team's first victory of the 2022 season.
The Knights return home on Saturday, November 12, taking on Brevard College in Knight Stadium for the team's senior day. Follow @knight_ftbl on Instagram and Twitter for live updates and more details on the team.
