Buena Vista, VA - The Southern Virginia University field hockey team concluded their 2023 season on home turf, but it was a challenging encounter as they fell to Meredith College in a hard-fought battle on Saturday afternoon.
In the sixth face-off between these two schools, the Knights had held a 3-2 advantage against the Angels in previous meetings, but this time, Meredith College seized control of the game right from the opening whistle. They wasted no time, finding the back of the net in the third minute and maintaining their dominance throughout the match.
Southern Virginia found themselves on the defensive for most of the game, struggling to break through Meredith's strong possession and relentless pressure. The Knights' only shot on goal came courtesy of Karenna Olson, but they were unable to sustain the offensive push.
Paola Nunez stood tall in goal, making an impressive 13 saves on the day, doing her best to hold off Meredith's formidable attacks. However, the Angels continued to press on, ultimately closing out the game with a final score of 10-0 in the 52nd minute.
