Southern Virginia Men's Basketball Splits At Roanoke Tournament

SALEM, VA - The Southern Virginia Men's Basketball Team had a mixed performance at the Roanoke Tournament, suffering a first-round defeat against Berry College with a score of 76-86 and bouncing back to secure a victory against Brooklyn College with a score of 61-53.

In the initial game of the tournament, the Knights established a comfortable lead, propelled by DJ Green's consecutive fastbreak threes, giving them an 11-point advantage with a minute left in the first half. However, the Vikings managed to narrow the lead to 42-36 by halftime.

The Knights lost momentum after the break, allowing the Vikings to seize control and maintain their lead throughout the game. Berry's offense picked up in the second half, going from 0-8 to 8-12 beyond the arc, keeping the Knights at bay.

In their second tournament game against Brooklyn College, the Knights faced a first-half deficit, trailing by as much as nine points. A crucial Koa Baker layup with five minutes remaining in the half equalized the score, but the Bulldogs rallied, converting six free throws to lead 35-25 at halftime.

The second half showcased the Knights' resilience as they limited Brooklyn to just 18 points. Tyler Kartchner, Malaki Olson, and Koa Baker contributed significantly both on the glass and in the paint. Despite being down by 12 at one point, the Knights rallied, taking the lead with only 4 minutes remaining and securing the victory.

Looking ahead, the Knights will be in action again as they travel to nearby Lexington, VA, for a showdown against cross-town rival Washington and Lee on Tuesday, November 21st, with tip-off scheduled for 2:00 PM.
