Lynchburg, VA – The Southern Virginia men's basketball team faced a setback in a non-conference matchup against the Randolph College Wildcats, concluding with a score of 69-92.

The Knights had a strong start, quickly establishing a 14-5 lead within the first 5 minutes, highlighted by a three-pointer from DJ Green. Southern Virginia continued their success in the first half, displaying efficiency from the free-throw line. However, with seven minutes left in the half, the Wildcats found their rhythm from beyond the arc, draining five three-pointers. Despite holding the lead for 8 minutes, the Knights relinquished it in the final 57 seconds of the half, allowing the Wildcats to seize a 37-40 lead.

Although the Knights managed to sink 14 free throws compared to Randolph's five, the Wildcats capitalized on scoring opportunities off turnovers, holding a 19-7 advantage in that aspect.

Randolph carried their momentum into the second half, opening with back-to-back three-pointers. The Knights, led by Tyler Kartchner's quick five points and a Koa Baker and-1 free throw, managed to reverse the momentum, narrowing the lead to 52-54.

However, the Wildcats responded with an offensive surge, delivering three three-pointers in a minute to extend their lead to 14 points with 10 minutes remaining. The Knights struggled offensively, shooting just 8-25 (32%) from the field and 1-7 (14.3%) from behind the arc, ultimately resulting in a 69-92 defeat.

Southern Virginia was led by DJ Green, who showcased an outstanding performance by scoring 23 points while maintaining perfection from the free-throw line, going 10-10.

Despite the challenging outcome, the Southern Virginia men's basketball team looks forward to playing Monday, December 18th against Division 1 Norfolk State University with tip-off set for 7:00 PM.
