Knights Men's Lacrosse Unable to Overcome Wolverines in Non-Conference Outing

BUENA VISTA, VA. — On a frigid Saturday afternoon, the Southern Virginia University Men's Lacrosse team (0-5) hosted Grove City College (2-3) in the teams' first meeting between each other. The Wolverines got the upper hand, using a strong second half to take home the 17-6 victory.

The game got off to a quick start for Grove City College, with Kobi Bui scoring the first goal just over four minutes into the game, assisted by Boden Davidson. The Wolverines continued to build on their lead throughout the first quarter, with Zachary Hougan and Brett Gladstone each scoring goals to put Grove City up 3-1.

Southern Virginia University responded with two quick goals, one from Seth Millington and the other from Sterling Thatcher, to cut the deficit to 3-2. Grove City responded with four more goals in the second, including a man-up goal from Matt Blythe, to take a 7-4 lead into the halftime break.

The second half saw the Wolverines continue to dominate, with Blythe and Bui each tacking on another goal to put Grove City up 7-4.

Grove City College continued to pull away, with goals from Blythe, Luke Jayne, and Brett Gladstone pushing their lead to 11-4. Southern Virginia University scored two goals late in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 13-6, but it was too little, too late.

The fourth quarter saw Grove City College close the game with four more goals, solidifying the final score, 17-6, in favor of the Wolverines.

Despite the loss, Southern Virginia University's Michael Brown impressed, leading the team with goals on the day. Grove City College was led by Blythe, who finished with 4 goals, and Kobi Bui, who had 3 goals and 2 assists.

The Knights hit the road again, traveling to Birmingham, Alabama, to take on Birmingham Southern. The opening face-off is set for 4 pm.
